North Allegheny
sent two womens boats and one mens boat to the 2005 US Rowing National Youth
Invitationals and all three came home with Top Ten national rankings.
The mens
junior quad of Rory Dahl, Joseph Brendel, Andrew Kaiser and Singen Elliott finished first
in their qualifying heat and first in their semi-final and entered the grand final as
medal favorites. They were in the lead when
windy conditions caused them to catch an oar just past the mid-point of the race, turning
their boat off course and resulting in a final standing of 6th place.
The NA women took
both first and second places in the womens junior quad petite final, giving them
national rankings of 7th and 8th in the event. In the 7th place boat were Anna Crews,
Briana Pittman, Erin Dauson and Brittney Kelly. Katie
Hodnik, Megan Hudson, Sharon Dauson and Ali Bogart crewed the 8th place boat.
The two-day event,
held on Lake Harsha near Cincinnati, Ohio, brought together elite high school-aged rowers
from schools and rowing clubs across the country. Participation
was by invitation only and was based on achieving first or second place medals in earlier
regional competitions. NAs rowers
earned their invitations in May at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships.
US Rowing is a
nonprofit organization recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the governing
body for the sport of rowing in the United States.
This concludes an
outstanding spring season for the North Allegheny Rowing Team. Summer camps for both current team members and
interested prospective rowers begin this week. See
the team website, www.narowing.org for details.
