A Brief History of NA Rowing...
| |
North Allegheny High School was the first high school in the Pittsburgh area to form a rowing team. A small band of students began rowing as a lifetime activity
in 1989 on Washington's Landing. In those early days, the team borrowed well-worn equipment which was stored in old trailers. We became recognized as a club sport in 2001.
Every year, it seems like the team is growing stronger and getting larger.
As a club sport, the North Allegheny Rowing Team is largely successful because of a well organized parents' group, dedicated coaches, and enthusiastic student-athletes.
The club is officially known as the North Allegheny Rowing Association, a 501(c)3, non-profit organization. NARA owns 4 eights, 3 fours, 4 quads, 4 doubles and 5 singles.

THINKING OF JOINING?
| |
Are you a future rower?! First, thanks for stopping by our web site. We hope you'll consider giving us a try. Rowing can be so much fun,
and being on the water is awesome. We work hard, but the benefits are great. The trips are a lot of fun and racing is even better! Get in shape and come row with us!
Now is the time to discover our sport. At a very early age we all gain some experience with soccer, baseball, basketball or football. Rowing, however, is new to anyone your age.
You will learn how to row with others who are learning the sport for the first time. And to keep it fair and competitive, you will race against crews with similar experience.
Racing is fun and the trips are a blast! You will compete against crews from coast to coast, from Canada to Mexico. To meet that level of competition, we travel
to regattas throughout the Midwest and the East Coast. Check out a list of places we go throughout the season:
- Head of the Ohio, Pittsburgh PA
- American Heritage River Fall Classic, Wyandotte MI
- Stotesbury Regatta, Philadelphia PA
- Midwest Scholastic Championships, Cincinnati OH
- Navy Day Regatta, Philadelphia PA
- Princeton Race, Mercer Lake NJ
- Scholastic Sprints, Moraine State Park PA
- Ohio Governer's Cup, Columbus OH
- Manny Flick Race, Philadelphia PA
- SRAA Nationals, Saratoga Springs NY
- Youth Nationals, Cincinnati OH
Get in shape! Pound for pound, rowers are the strongest athletes on the face of the earth. Rowing is rated the #1 cross-training exercise for other sports.
You will build strength and tone the arms, legs, back, abs, and heart.
Meet New Friends at Other Schools! Other schools in our area share our love of the water. We meet up often and race against each other. You can't help but become
friends with rowers from schools such as Fox Chapel, Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Central Catholic, Oakland Catholic, North Catholic, Schenley, Taylor Allderdice,
Winchester Thurston, Hampton, Shaler, and Ellis.
Learn from experienced coaches. Our coaching staff consists of one Head Coach and several assistant coaches, most of whom have
competed at the high school and college level regionally and nationally, and many of whom still compete. All of our coaches and assistant coaches are dedicated not only
to the performance of the team, but to helping each rower develop to his or her potential.
Feel free to visit our ROWING 101 page for more information about the sport!!
