Updated July 12, 2009
The past few weekends have been very successful for former NA rowers!
In club sports, Adam Reckless (2007) and his Ohio State University Crew Club
men's four team went undefeated and won the ACRA National Championship.
At the College level, Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships (IRAs, national championships
for men and lightweight women)
were held on Lake Natoma in Sacramento (Calif.) and NA's former rowers showed what they are made of:
- Gold for Alan Meininghaus (2008) in the University of Washington men's open four
- Silver for Kim Weaver (2006) in the Bucknell women's lightweight eight
- Silver for Andrew Kaiser (2005) in the Yale men's lightweight eight
- Second in the petite final of the men's second varsity eights for
Joe Brendel (2006) and his Stanford crew
- Third in the petite final of the men's varsity eights for
Singen Elliott (2006) and his Cornell crew
Internationally, Andrew Kaiser and the Yale lightweight 4+ made it to the final
of the Prince Albert Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta. Alas were beaten
convincingly by local university Oxford Brookes.
Ali Bogart, Mercyhurst Varsity 8
Also, on May 29 and 30, the varsity women competed at NCAAs (heavyweight women's programs)
at Cooper River, NJ.
Ali Bogart (2005) and her crew from Mercyhurst College won the silver medal in
the women's Division II Varsity Eights. Brianna Pittman (2007) also won silver
in the University of Wisconsin Division I varsity four.
Singen Elliott was invited to try out for a sculling boat for the Under 23 team.
John Brendel said his chances of making the team are good.
Congratulations to all NA alumni for these excellent results!

just what you may be able accomplish with a little hard work.
Also, treat your teammates as friends and equals instead of enemies
or rivals. It may be hard to see at times, but you are all on the
same team working towards the same goals in the end. Lastly,
Frank Lloyd Wright summed up rowing well when he said,
'The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the
belief in a thing makes it happen.'"

Kuhn's as a Deli clerk."

would have liked to have rowed in the spring my class schedule
did not allow that."

managed to get my Gold Award for Girl Scouts, which is the highest
ranking award that the organization gives out."
Other activities - "Heh. What can I say? I have no life. Does looking
for a dog count?"
E-mail address:
tatsuha_xi@hotmail.com "I can't begin to try and tell you where that came from."
Message to the team: "It has been a bumpy road this past year,
I realize that. I hope that this does not deter you from trying your
hardest and persevering. You all have the abilities to succeed,
but this is directly connected to how much you want to commit
to you and your teammates. Working together, communicating
clearly, and cooperating will get this team on the right track.
We can build from there. Cliche, no?...But it is unbelievably
true. If there is anything that I can do to help, well, you
know where to find me."

I got married in February, it was a phenomenal day and my husband and are enjoying the
married life! We will soon adopt a puppy, and in the next year hopefully we will start
trying for children. We haven't yet taken our honeymoon, as we had originally planned
to take right after the wedding, but I just got blown away by planning the big day, I
couldn't handle planning a honeymoon too! However, we are currently planning a cruise
to Hawaii for next Spring, which is a vacation BADLY needed by both Richie (my husband) and me!!
I am busy working my Mary Kay business, working a part-time position at a general
contracting company in Saxonburg, as well as being a office manager for my husband's
business as well. Within the next few year I hope to leave the part-time position
in Saxonburg, and work my Mary Kay business full time while still helping my husband
manage the office work within his excavation company.
I'd love to keep in touch with my old rowing pals, so please feel free to contact
me whenever! All my contact info is listed below!
Blessings to you all!

Nick Buls
My name is Nick Buls, I was in from winter of 1996-Spring of 1998, when I
graduated. I'm the Operations Officer for the USS Devastator (MCM-6) now,
homeported out of Ingleside, TX. We're in San Diego right now after a
transit around Central America and through the Panama Canal. Did some
exercises over here with the 3rd Fleet, and soon we'll be heading back.
Before here I was the Gunnery and Anti Terrorism/Force Protection Officer
for the USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG-54) out of Yokosuka Japan from 2002-2004, and
was temporarily attached to the USS Cushing (DD-985) from April to August of
2004 to augment watches for their Persian Gulf Deployment. Don't get around
the Burgh as much as I'd like any more, but every time I look at the rivers
I think of my time with the NA crew team. Hope everyone is well, and send my
regards to the team and coaches,
Lieutenant JG Nick Buls
