Wesleyan University Looking to Identify Prospective Rowers (Junior Boys/Girls)
|
|
|
Updated June 16, 2010
Coach Schermer has recieved the following request from Laura McDaniel, Assistant Women's Rowing Coach at Wesleyan:
We are in the process of working to identify any junior boys or girls in your program that you think would be a good fit at
Wesleyan and with our rowing program.
Here's what we're looking for:
Academically, we generally like to see scores over 600 in each of the sections of the SAT or above 29 on the ACT.
Taking the most challenging classes in school is a plus.
Athletically, we're looking for hard workers who are either in your
top crew or who WANT to be in your top crew. Going sub 7:50 for 2000m
on the erg for women and sub 6:50 for men is a good starting point,
although we understand that some teams spend more time on the erg than
others.
You and your athletes can learn more about our men's and women's crews
at Wesleyan here... http://www.wesleyan.edu/athletics/
You can contact our recruiting coordinators, Justin Watson (men) at
jwatson01@wesleyan.edu and myself, Laura McDaniel (women)
at lmcdaniel@wesleyan.edu with any questions or names of athletes who you know want to row in college.
Phil Carney is the Head Men's Coach at Wesleyan, and can be reached at pcarney@wesleyan.edu or (860)685-2923.
Pat Tynan is the Head Women's Coach and can be reached at ptynan@wesleyan.edu or (860)685-2922.
We look forward to hearing back from you and learning more about your exceptional student-athletes! Good luck with your racing!
P.S. - You can also direct your current juniors to our online recruiting forms:

University of Delaware
|
|
|
Updated January 13, 2010
Hello!
The University of Delaware Women's Rowing Program is gathering
information about junior (class of 2011) prospects. We are looking for
rowers who are 5'7'' or taller, open weight, and have the ability to
pull a 2k in 7:48 or faster by the end of their senior year.
Academically a student should have an un-weighted GPA of 3.4 or better.
If you have the time, please email me the names and email/mailing
addresses of your rowers that are interested in Division I rowing.
We do recruit coxswains and look for someone who is 110lbs and has at
least 2 years coxing experience. Coxswains need to be able to provide an
audio tape before being considered for recruitment.
I hope that your new year is getting off to a good start! Best of luck
in your races this spring! Thank you for your help!

Smith College: Letter from Head Coach Devin Fay
|
|
|
Updated November 30, 2009
Smith is a 4 year liberal arts institution with a strong rowing
and academic history. It is a Division III school, which means
that there are no athletic scholarships offered. For this
reason, we are concerned with finding girls that will be a good
fit for the school academically as well as socially and
athletically.
Smith has approximately 2,700 undergraduates, all
women. 90% of first years are in the top quarter of their
graduating class. The average SAT for incoming freshman is
around 1900 combined although Smith is SAT blind. If a student
does not perform well on standardized testing this will not hurt
their application to Smith. Cost per year to attend Smith is
around $50,000 which can seem like a lot, but the average
financial aid package is approximately $30,000 and in 2008-2009
Smith awarded 48 million in financial aid from its $1.366
billion endowment.
There is a fantastic Junior Year Abroad
program that nearly half of the entire junior class participates
in. Smith College also has the Praxis internship program where
the college helps find and pay for an internship in the students
major. I am informing you about our school so you can be better
prepared to help your rowers find options to row at the
collegiate level. Our college specifically is one that takes its
academic environment as seriously as its athletic environment.
Can you think of any girls on your team that would be interested
in Smith College? We would be interested in anyone who you think
would fit at our school.
Thanks,
Devin Fay

Michigan State University: Letter from Head Coach Mike Bailey
|
|
|
Updated October 13, 2010
I am writing to let you know about the Men's and Women's Rowing program at Michigan State University.
I would like to please ask that you pass this letter on to the parents and athletes in your high school
program, or to any high school athletes you know that may be looking to join an up and coming collegiate program.
At Michigan State we are one of the largest club programs in the Midwestern United States, having over 90 members.
With all new coaches in 2009 we are looking to have a breakout season. We have a newer boathouse on the Grand River
that is just minutes from campus, a fleet of racing shells, and use of our own indoor tank, a rarity in the Midwest.
Our fall schedule includes 3 head races, with our own "Head of the Grand" regatta on October 18th, 2009. We train
in Texas over spring break, and conclude our season at the Dad Vail Championships and Club Sport Nationals.
Why Michigan State? As a Division I school we do not offer scholarships, however the potential to grow our
program with 46,000 students on campus is huge. While our goals are to give as many students as possible a
great collegiate rowing experience, our secondary goal is to bring home championships. This year's Novice men's
squad averages 6'4", and the women's team around 5'10"!
If you or someone you know might want further information concerning our program, please direct them to
fill out our Athlete Questionnaire.
Applications can be found online at MSU Admissions. Please do not hesitate
to call or email me if with specific questions.
Thanks for your time, and Go Big Green!
Sincerely,
Mike Bailey
