NA Women Take Top Spots at Philadelphia Youth Regatta

North Allegheny’s women rowers showed medal-winning form at the Philadelphia Youth Regatta, held Saturday, July 17 on Philadelphia’s Schuykill River.  34 high school and club teams from the eastern US competed in a series of men’s and women’s events that included both sweep (one oar per rower) and sculling (two oars per rower) contests.

 

The NA women’s Junior 16 Double of Sara Whitby and Brittney Kelly brought home a gold medal, while teammates Katie Zemel and Kim Weaver captured the silver in the same event.  In the women’s Junior 16 Quad, Erin Dauson, Kathleen Janosco, Briana Pittman, and Kim Weaver rounded out the day’s successful results with a bronze medal.

 

All of NA’s competing rowers took part in the team’s optional summer sculling camp.  Men’s team rowers will be competing in Indianapolis July 21 – 25.  Both teams will then be on break until school resumes at the end of the summer.  New rower try-outs will be held during the first week of school.  For further information, which will be posted as available, refer to the official North Allegheny Rowing website at www.narowing.org.
