NA Rowers Get to the Gold in Weather-shortened Scholastic Sprints

 

NA’s Tiger Rowers braved the wind and rain to turn in outstanding performances at the Pittsburgh Scholastic Sprints Regatta on Sunday, May 2, 2004.  The Tigers were able to capture several medals before plummeting temperatures and rough water brought the event to an early end.

 

27 teams from Pennsylvania and Ohio gathered at Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park for a full day of sweep and sculling contests.  Early morning sunshine quickly gave way to ominous clouds and soon spectators and rowers alike were huddled under umbrellas and inside the team tents which clustered on the lake shore. 

 

Many boats never had a chance to complete the finals for their events or even to race at all, but those that did engaged in hard-fought battles against other strong teams.  NA’s novice women crossed the line ahead of the pack in both the Novice 8+ and Freshman 8+ races, and several of NA’s small varsity boats captured medals as well.

 

The Tigers travel to Detroit this weekend for the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships.
