NA Rowers Earn 17 Medals at Head of the Occoquan

Saturday & Sunday, November 5 & 6, 2005

The NA Tigers finished out their fall rowing season in style with 17 of their 24 boats earning medals at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta in Fairfax, Virginia.  The Tigers combined for 7 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.  All of NA’s boats had top 10 finishes.  In many of their events they defeated college teams and more experienced club teams.

NA’s men were dominant in the singles events, taking both first and second places in the novice and youth categories.  The NA women and men both did likewise in the quad events.  The Tiger men and women combined forces to grab the gold in the mixed octuples/eights, finishing ahead of second place Loyola College and third place Penn State University.  NA’s new fall novices jumped into the medals as well, with gold for the women and silver for the men in the youth novice four events.

The Head of the Occoquan is one of the largest and fastest growing end-of-season regattas in the United States.  It brings together highly competitive high school, college and club teams from across the East Coast.

NA’s rowers will be keeping in shape over the winter break and will be back in action on Saturday, March 4, 2006 when they will host other area rowing teams for the 7th annual North Allegheny Indoor Rowing High School Championships at Marshall Middle School.
