NA Rowers Claim Top Points Trophies at Pittsburgh Sprints

Saturday and Sunday, May 6 & 7, 2006

The Tigers claimed top points trophies for Men’s Sculling and Women’s Sculling and tied with Fox Chapel for Total Men’s Team Points at last weekend’s Pittsburgh Scholastic Sprints.  The event, held on Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park, brought together 20 high school rowing teams from Western Pennsylvania and Ohio.  NA took away 21 medals, including 8 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze.

Strong winds on Saturday forced race officials to shorten the course from the usual 1500 meters, delay the race starts, and cancel the finals in several novice and small boat events.  Sunday dawned with weather far more conducive to rowing, however, and all scheduled races were run.   NA captured top place finishes across all boat sizes and rowing categories, highlighted by golds in the Girls’ Varsity Double, Girls’ JV Double, Girls’ Varsity Pair, Girls’ Varsity Single, Girls’ Lightweight Single, Boys’ Varsity Double, Boys’ JV Double and Boys’ Club Quad.

The Tigers travel next to Harsha Lake near Cincinnati, Ohio to compete against top teams from the entire Midwest region at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships.
