NA Rowers Take Three Medals at National Youth Championships
119 teams
representing 24 states sent crews to
NA got off to a
strong start on the first day of preliminary competition by qualifying all four of their
boats for semi-finals. During the second
days semi-finals races, all four boats again were among the top finishers, earning
them each a place in their respective Grand Finals. Against
the most elite high-school-aged competition in the nation, NAs crews rowed strong
through the Grand Finals. The Womens
Youth Quad finished only half a second out of first place in an intense battle to the
finish line. The Mens Youth Quad had a
similar photo-finish race between the 2nd-through-4th place boats,
as did the Mens Youth Single between the 2nd and 3rd place
rowers.
NA seniors Singen
Elliott, Joseph Brendel, Rory Dahl, Brittney Kelly and Liz Rebhun were key to the medal
wins, along with juniors Erin Dauson and Briana Pittman.
NA has a good outlook for next year as well, with juniors Steve Marcus, Mark Nolfi
and Bill Francis and sophomore Brian Marcus showing their strength in their first
appearance at Youth Nationals.
