NA Rows Strong at USRowing Club Nationals

Sunday, July 22, 2007

North Allegheny’s optional summer sculling camp sent three boats into the finals at last week’s USRowing Club National Championships and came away with a bronze medal in the Women’s Intermediate Lightweight Double, as well as a 5th place finish in the Men’s Junior A (18 and under) Quad and a 6th place finish in the Women’s Junior A Quad.

The competition was fierce as 91 high school, college and club teams representing 71 cities in 27 states and four countries battled it out in the heat and humidity at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.  In all, almost 1,000 boats participated in the four-day event.  This national competition is open to all USRowing members and represents one of the largest summer regattas in the country.

The NA camp team also advanced a second Men’s Junior A Quad and a Men’s Junior B (16 and under) Quad to semi-finals.  Additional NA rowers participating in other summer rowing camps competed at the event, with the Men’s Junior A Quad from Three Rivers taking a 5th place finish.

North Allegheny students entering 8th, 9th and 10th grades are invited to learn more about the sport of rowing at two free summer camps to be held at the team’s boathouse.  Both camps will be held on Saturday mornings, August 4th and 25th.  See the team’s website, www.narowing.org, for more information.
