NA Rowing Summer Camp Members Compete in Philadelphia

Saturday, July 14, 2007

The North Allegheny Summer Sculling Camp members joined 32 other high school and club teams for some warm weather competition at the Philadelphia Youth Regatta last weekend.   The event, billed as “The World’s Most Laid Back Regatta”, brought together teams from 31 cities in 10 states on the Schuylkill River.

The Tigers came away with two silver medals and one bronze medal, as well as valuable experience in racing smaller boats and in different racing styles.  The optional NA summer camp is headed by NA assistant coach Jonathan Mohan, who noted, “This was a great chance to let our novice rowers experience racing in sculling events and to give some of our varsity rowers a chance to try events in which they had little or no experience.  We raced against tough East Coast club teams and performed very well.”

NA also had two team members competing at the event as part of a summer camp at The Boston Rowing Club.  They added another silver medal to the NA list.

The NA summer sculling program will send 11 boats to the USRowing Club National Championships in Cooper River, NJ later this week.

Incoming NA 8th, 9th and 10th graders interested in the sport of rowing are invited to two free learn-to-row camps hosted by the NA Rowing Team.  Those will be held August 4th and August 25th at the team’s boathouse.  See the team’s website, www.narowing.org, for more information and directions.
