Tigers Make Their Presence Known at Windy Speakmon Regatta

Saturday, October 28, 2006

North Allegheny’s Tiger rowers braved winds of over 30 mph as they battled 55 teams from across the Midwest at Saturday’s Speakmon Memorial Regatta in Columbus, Ohio.  In the end, they claimed a slate of excellent results, including four gold medals, two silver and 2 bronze.

The Tigers stood out early with a bronze medal in the Women’s Singles and followed that shortly with both a gold and silver in the Women’s Quads.  The Tiger men weren’t far behind, taking gold in both the Men’s Lightweight Singles and Men’s Open Singles.  The Tiger ladies came back with a bronze in the Women’s Open Doubles before the men finished out the day with both the gold and silver in the Men’s Open Quads.

The team’s new recruits made a good showing in their first appearance in competition with a 7th place finish out of 28 boats for the Men’s High School Novice Four, an 8th place of 23 for the Women’s High School Novice 4+, a 9th place of 24 for the Men’s High School Novice Eight, and a 14th place of 23 for the Women’s High School Novice Eight.

NA’s rowers will wrap up their fall season at the American Heritage River Fall Classic in Wyandotte, Michigan on Sunday, November 5th.
